My mother-in-law tells me that when Spouse was a wee little boy, he followed her around the house talking to her nonstop. Some things never change–now he talks to me instead of her. I fear I will be outnumbered in this respect if she keeps this up.

Gasp!

Why mother, you shouldn’t startle me so! You’ll give me a case of the vapors!
Take that, 54 year-old CEO and mother of 2 or 3!

Last year when Grimsaburger and I ran our first 10k, I started off with a bang and finished with a whimper. In fact, the 53 year-old CEO of my workplace passed me at mile 4. This year I kicked her ass by more than a minute. But enough about her humiliating dust-eating, let’s talk about [...]
On deserving things

Years and years ago, my sister and I came up with a system by which we convinced ourselves that a purchase was no longer optional, but necessary. If you wanted a pair of shoes, a brand-name gadget, or something else that you couldn’t reasonably buy on the spur of the moment, and you waited for [...]
Down but not out!

Pregnant biking is still possible, nay, enjoyable! Sure, I bear a striking resemblance to a certain old lady, what with my raised handlebars, knee-length black wool coat and tall black boots, but getting this body to move in something approximating normal ways is an infinitesimally small price to pay.

So Spouse and I are going for the big ultrasound tomorrow. It’s the one where parents customarily find out about chambers of the heart, formation of palates, limbs, and other organs, and oh yes, the sex of the baby. But we’ve decided to hold off until the big reveal at the end to find out [...]
Great way to end the day [minus sarcasm]

It was a shit day, what with the early-morning rejection followed by hours’ worth of trying to make a one-salary budget work if everything falls through next year. I only really lost it once, though, and instead set myself to figuring out why one door slammed shut while starting to peek through another. One benefit [...]

Happy Birthday, JJ!
Going deaf: the playlist
Posted in Uncategorized on August 2, 2008 | 7 Comments »
E has thrown down a gauntlet, of sorts. Here’s the scenario: you have an hour’s worth of music to listen to before you go deaf. Besides the voices of your loved ones, of course, what’s the last thing you want to hear?
Here’s my list: not all my favorite songs, but the ones that have the [...]
